Look, I came her to do my bachelors because I knew the universities here were better.
As far as your accusations about the Professor being anti-Indian NRI -- just do a google search on his research. He has done more for our community and motherland than almost anyone. His research has become the most commonly quoted in immigration and he has been helping build the image of India. The only thing he isn't doing is pretending that everything in India is perfect. He is not a stupid nationalist who lives in America yet makes up garbage about everything in India being so wonderful.
I have read many of his articles on Businessweek -- they have been very helpful to all of us.
If you understand this from his words then i can judge your IQ level.
Ok now coming back to your statement. I just didnt say IIT but also REC's. REC stands for Regional Engineering Colleges (there are plenty in India) and that is not a payment seat. Education level is well maintained and by entrance examination standard, its far above GRE level. Argue me on this. I have no problems with America or any American, infact I feel America is a great first world nation and I love being working/living here.
But this doesn't mean I will say any bulllshit & non-fact thing about my motherland.

The people(few Non Resident Indians, 2% i must say) like we have seen talk so much negative about their own country, but whenever they are in trouble in foreign countries, they look for immediate help from Indian Government. I dont mind getting Red Dots, But please, for god's sake. Stop doing this fruitless campaign. Do you guys think Giving a Clock or sending flowers solved earlier problems. Enough of this Gandhiian ways. This country is not good for people like Gandhi. May be Flower campaign got noticed and created a whole new experience for the USCIS, but i dont think it really helped them do anything in our favor. Already, folks here are wasting their money, year after year, on their EADs and APs for them and their family. Just think for a second guys, It costs us 1000 $ to maintain status on AOS and visit our family and this is going on indefinitely for our years now. USCIS/Congress does not want to do anything about this, They are happy to get the revenue. Even if you think a minimum of 200,000 people spending 1000 $ an year, it is 200,000,000 $. Iam not even considering the amount they spent on other things like H1B extension, H4s..... Just think about the Dollars they are making on this Green Card SCAM. Accept it or not, it is indirectly affecting our lives, even though, GC is not really important for lot of folks. Iam one such person, I have a good client and a decent employer and iam with the same folks for 9 years and they are happy extending my H1b at their cost. But still, this whole GC game, is sometimes disturbing. They are playing with our emotions and our loved ones. So, GUYS we need to take a bigger and bolder step. To me, Calling people, sending flowers and letters explaining the situation makes no sense. Do you think, those guys dont really know about our situation. Let us a make a bold move. We are 70,000 folks just here in ImmigrationVoice. Let us compile a letter,that pushes USCIS/Congress on improving the condition. As long as they get those EXTRA Dollars, i dont think anything is going to happen. Even if they remove the provision to apply for GC while on H1B, it is good for us, for we will know that in advance and can plan on shaping our future better, instead of this false promise and emotional torture. I think even AILA or other Lawyers are useless. They dont want to do anything for us. All they do is, interpret the LAW , and explain us in the way we can understand. They dont take steps to fight for the justice. All they care is the money. So let us make our point clear to USCIS, we dont want to waste money on EADs and APs and H1B extensions. To me, it should be free of cost, since it is their problem that they dont work efficiently. Why should we pay 1000s of dollars for their inefficiency. let us all 70,000 work together in sending a letter to USCIS or Congress that We are not willing to spend any more money on the GC knowing that we are not going to get it anyway. Unless, we do something like this, the real impact of our situation will never get noticed. Again, our main aim should be to let them know about our situation and not just that IV is a group that will send flowers, to express its presence.
To do what you suggest, we have to organize ourselves first. Opening threads and debating and then burying them deep does not help. If we have 30K IV members + 40 K families and friends 70K letters will definitely make a difference.

Go back and look at the forum postings. There are much more amenable and practical suggestions made. This PD thing doesn't pass the basic test: was there a precedence or prior history, can it be done and does it lessen the time for one to apply for I-485 and GC. Does it reduce backlog?

I think I am in a similar situation with you.Me and my kids are also separated from my wife for almost a year now. It was really a big mistake on my part not to join her on her Embassy interview thinking visas were plentiful.BIG MISTAKE. I was at that time not well informed about visa availability.Our PD is Nov 05 and I am from the Philippines. I do feel what you feel. It is an emotional roller coaster ride. Are you derivative beneficiaries of your wife's Sched A petition and what country are you from? If you dont mind me asking.

I remember that in the early nineties it was next to impossible to get a home loan in India. I think the only company which gave out home loans was HDFC and the interest rate was a whopping 16%. Property prices at that time conformed to what people could actually afford as the house had to be either paid in full or you had to take out a loan from your provident fund.
Fast forward to 2000 and beyond. After the Indian rupee became fully convertible and the banking regulations were relaxed every bank or finance company started to make loans. The upshot of that is that everyone could buy a house and car through taking out loans. This of course created this huge demand for new housing from the middle class which translated into a steep increase in land and property prices.
This may not exactly be a total bubble as loans are there to stay. What is happening though is that home construction is going on at a rapid pace and at some point Indian cities and their suburbs may be overbuilt. At that point you would be stuck with your house and not be able to sell as is happening in the US. Of course some markets will correct but I donot think Bombay, Bangalore or Hyderabad will.
I'm a a total layman regarding such issues and I am just trying to reason this through.

(1) Community must unite
(2) People must come out of anonymity by providing true information
(3) People must walk the talk - just not open threads and keep discussing
(4) Efforts must be well organized - IV is a great organization - we have state chapters where people can organize themselves - helps us all to do things more effectively
The biggest issue is - everyone come here and open threads but it alll stops there - people join state chapters but do nothing - just want to get updates - and always blame IV for whatever happens and question IV and want to grill IV as to what IV is doing.
Can we all get organized?
Sanjeev - I am sorry I am digressing from the original plan of this thread - but lets face reality - what is the use of all these tangential efforts - you may get hundreds of replies on this thread - but is there a proper directive? No one knows what to do it all starts and ends in discussion and waste of valuble time doing nothing.

(3) Pledge wholehearted support
(4) Be committed
(5) Join a state chapter
(6) Expand the community
(7) Work hard
(8) gather support
(9) take initiatives to lead - support will follow

(11) Understand the effort - lobbying - understand that IV needs a lot of money for lobbying - please contribute - please raise funds

The represintitve said they recieved couple of calls. I explained my view and how as an RN i'm effected by this. The office said that sentor Cantwell has not issue a statement. I spoke of USCIS, financail and emotional loss. I did say that hunder of thousands are effected and according to WSJ million of dollars has been lost.
The representitve seems intrested. She transferred me to Olia black voice mail that seems to be taking care of this issue and i left a message for with my contact information.
More people need to call and get thier stories through. After all Cantwell was supportive of skilled workers. So far senators office are responding with interest to personal stories and the effect of the USCIS VB.

i support your efforts and have printed out and sent letters to the people mentioned. Momentum for release of information should build up even if we have 50-100 letters from affected people...otherwise people won't know of EB-3 IND's plight.
I suppose we should followup with phone calls in 15 days to cement our request. We should have a poll on who all has sent the letter and made the call.
